Frequently Asked Questions About Cable TV from TriCounty Telecom

Analog Without Converter (cable box)

  1. What do I do if all the channels in the Basic or Basic Plus Package do not show on my TV set?
Your problem most likely is with your programming option in your TV's menu. Look for auto program command to capture cable channels and not antenna channels. Refer to your TV owner's manual.

Analog With Converter (cable box)

  1. How do I record a channel while I am away?
To record, the TV has to be on channel 3 and your VCR on channel 3. Leave the converter power on and tune it to the channel you wish to record. Program your VCR to record channel 3.

  2. Do I have to use your remote control or can I program my universal remote to work the converter box?
You do not have to use our remote, you can program your universal with the code for Zenith cable product listed in your remote control instructions.

  3. My converter will not respond to the remote control. Sometimes it will start turning on and off and changes channels on its own.
Unplug the converter from the electrical outlet for a few seconds and then plug it back in. This should reset the converter solving these problems.

  4. My cable box has been skipping ESPN 2 and Spike TV. How can I get the channels back?
If you are using a remote control that came with your converter box, find the button that is labeled "FC" or "FAV". Enter the channel number you are missing on the keypad and then press "Enter". For example, if channel 21 is being skipped, press: 2-1-Enter. Then press the FC or FAV button on your remote. This function should add the missing channel back in your line-up.

Digital

  1. What can I do with DMX movie banners interrupting my program?
With the digital receiver ON, unplug the receiver, wait about 30 seconds, and plug back in. This should fix the problem--however, remember that once the receiver is without power, the guide must reload.

If the first option does not work, try this: tune the receiver to channel 245, then tune to any Basic Plus channel, and then tune back to 245.

  2. How can I get my remote to operate the volume even after I have programmed my TV in the digital remote?
Point the remote toward the receiver with the receiver on, press the CBL button until it flashes, then press the TV button once.

  3. What if my Remote quits operating the receiver but still operates the TV?
Point the remote toward the receiver with the receiver on, press the CBL button until it flashes, then press 000. If that does not work, keep repeating the step using 001, 002, or 003.

  4. My programming comes in but my guide will not load, what can I do?
Leave the receiver on channel 245 overnight or for some time in order for the guide to finish loading. This is common for some new installs, or if receiver was unplugged or experienced electrical surge.

  5. How much does a Pay-Per-View purchase cost if I call it in (call ahead PPV)?
Add $1 to each purchase if you use the call ahead PPV.

  6. How do I add a premium package such as Starz/Encore to my receivers?
Call in your request to our office and we add it the same day with a $10 service charge.

  7. What does it mean if my green light on receiver disappears or turns red in color?
Check to see if any of the cables have become loose or disconnected from the back of the receiver. If not, please call the office for repair, you may have low signal on that outlet or a faulty receiver.

  8. I don't understand why after the Hurricane just past my cable is out. I called the office and they told me it was a commercial power issue. My power is working.......why isn't my cable TV?
Although you were fortunate enough not to loose power during the the storm, many places weren't quite as lucky. Cable television is no exception when it comes to needing commercial power to operate. It is possible for power to be out at an isolated point on the cable system long before it reaches your residence in which case will cause an interruption in your cable TV service. Please be patient as we work in conjunction with power crews to restore your service as soon as possible.
